From 2000 to 2008 he was Archbishop of Chambéry and from 2008 to 2022 Archbishop of Lille. From 2007 to 2013 he was Vice-President of the French Bishops' Conference. He currently chairs its Council for Catholic Education. Since 26 April 2022 he has been Archbishop of Paris.
