Born into a farming family in a small Beninese village, after a profound religious conversion he chose to devote himself to caring for the mentally ill in Africa. In 1994, he founded the ‘Saint Camille de Lellis’ association in his country, which, through its reception centres, today helps tens of thousands of psychiatric patients to free themselves from the ‘chains of stigma’ in five sub-Saharan African countries.
