Syro-Catholic Archbishop, Syria

A monk, a Syrian Catholic priest, he has been Archbishop of Homs since the beginning of 2023. He lived with Father Paolo Dall'Oglio in the monastic community Al-Khalil (‘the friend of God’) near Damascus. From May to October 2015, he was kidnapped by Daesh terrorists, but managed to escape with the help of a Muslim friend. In his book ‘Un moine en otage’, he tells the moving story of his abduction. He received the ‘Colombe d'Oro’ award in 2019.
